How I Use the Mevo+ Launch Monitor in My Coaching

As a golf coach, my goal is always to meet each student where they are—and that includes knowing when technology can help, and when it’s best to keep things simple. While I don’t rely on launch monitor data for every lesson, I do have a Mevo+ in my toolkit, and I use it strategically depending on the student, their skill level, and our specific goals.

For many of my beginner and intermediate students, the fundamentals are the priority: grip, stance, alignment, balance, contact. These core skills can often be diagnosed and improved with a trained eye and clear feedback, without needing to dive into swing metrics right away. In these cases, I find that using too much data too soon can be overwhelming or distracting. We want to build solid mechanics and confidence first.

That said, the Mevo+ can be a powerful tool—especially for showing progress or giving specific, measurable feedback. Whether we’re tracking swing speed over time, dialing in distances, measuring angles of approach, or seeing how much your driver launches, spins, or carries, the ability to quantify changes can be both motivating and informative.  Even for newer players, using the Mevo+ occasionally to highlight improvement can be a great confidence booster.

For more advanced players or competitive golfers, I’m much more likely to bring out the Mevo+ regularly. That’s where metrics like spin rate, ball speed, launch angle, face angle, and swing path matter more.  Whether we’re working on shaping shots, eliminating a two-way miss, or building a reliable shot pattern, the data provides clear insight into what’s happening and what needs to change.  It’s a great resource when measuring precision and refinement are the focus, and that is with my better players.

In short, I have the technology—and I use it with purpose. When the time is right, Mevo+ becomes an extension of the lesson, giving us valuable information to support your progress. But just as importantly, I use discretion NOT to use it when it detracts from the learning.  My coaching always starts with your goals, and I’ll bring in the tools that best support your improvement—whether that’s a video, a drill, or a launch monitor.

If you’re ready for a coach who meets you where you are—and helps you move forward with the right tools at the right time—let’s work together.  Explore lesson options and get started on your new golf journey at mcintosh.golf.
